The Institute of Agrobiotechnology (INA) was established as one of the Institutes of CERTH having as mission to conduct basic and applied research and promote innovation in the field of Agrobiotehnology.
INA's main objective is the development, application and use of modern technologies and innovation in the production of improved seeds and propagation material, aiming to the solution of important cultivation, food processing and agroindustrial problems, in general. This perspective is supported by the development and use of biodiagnostic applications based on recent advances in molecular biology, genome sequencing and mapping, molecular breeding, plant variety and animal race typing, useful gene identification and exploitation, especially genes derived from pharmaceutical and aromatic plants that can be used in novel products and other metabolite production.
Finally, INA's activities include biotechnology applications in the food-beverage production and standarization, in agroindustrial by-product exploitation and new product development.
